This book makes me angrier with the Catholic Church than I am already. The story only shows how my former church regards women and has been downgrading us in this all-male bastion. Religion is the root of all evil!!!
The research materials on the life of Pope Joan is good but I believe there are more materials on her life that need to come out. I saw the movie version on her life and there were some areas on her life that do not match which makes me conclude we only see and read what they want us to see. The church always denies there was ever a female Pope. So what materials are still in the dark room ?
l liked the movie about Pope Joan much better. It might have filled in more with fiction but at least it helped you understand the period and the possibilities that might have happened so it kept your imagination going along with your reading. This book relied too much on documentation and we know they had little recorded and even less registered with documentation.
Informative but not very scholarly.
